GRASSROOTS
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Grass Roots was the first show of wearegrassroot. LCC BA Graphic and Media - Illustration second year and first year filled the 10,000 square foot T3 gallery in the Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, with a veritable feast of multi-disciplined creativity.

We laid turf over the entire floor of the gallery and sculpted a garden within the space: work hung from washing lines and off wooden trellis, picnic rugs were laid out with stacks of sketchbooks on them, grass sofas offered seating throughout and a huge grass cinema complete with rows of 3D grass seats showcased our moving image work.

1 PLUS 2 EQUALS 3
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

1 Plus 2 Equals 3 was more of an design carnival than an exhibition. A one night showcasing work by students from year one and two of LCC BA Graphic and Media - Illustration second year and first year . Two thousand colorful balloons filled the gallery space, each carrying a small custom-made work of art for visitors to take home. The front room of the gallery presented samples of books, crafted objects and interactive installations.

THE ANATOMY OF READING
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The shape of a book reflects the human anatomy in the way we hold, flick, carry and read them. What will happen if such familiar interactions are erased, amplified or subverted? Will such structural changes modify or add to the content of a book?

We were set the challenge to design and produce a book that challenges the way we read and interact with it form/structure. Questioning the norms of language, format, materials, sound, smell, touch, weight, narrative, learning, legibility and space we exhibited an innovative and diverse body of work that deconstructs the preconconceptions of the book format and rebuilds it into something unique at The Old Sweet Shop.

SIT
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Free Range Arts Festival in The Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane, London. We each took a chair as a starting point and each begun our own extensive explorations and investigations of them.

Considering the chair's function, form and potential as a physical object we posed the question 'what is a chair?' testing ourselves conceptually and also testing our ability to apply our aesthetic styles to the conceptual outcome of this brief.

DIALOGUE
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

School of Graphic Design Degree Show 2008 of London College of Communication. The catalogue and the exhibition it accompanies are structured so that the graduate work on display is juxtaposed using the following themes: transitions, roles, pasts, identities, cultures, environments, futures and systems. Challenging conventional categorization this thematic approach allows works from four different field within graphic design practice: illustration, moving image, typo/graphics and advertising, to interact and create a dialogue with each other.
